Do I Need a Dental Crown?
Common Reasons For Treatment
Dental crowns are designed to completely cover and protect your tooth, extending all the way down to the gum line. If your tooth has sustained significant damage or if you have a cavity that is too large for a filling, a crown is often recommended.
Crowns are also commonly used to safeguard the structure of a tooth following root canal therapy. Once the crown is placed, it helps prevent further complications. In most cases, crowns are the most effective solution for restoring a tooth that has been broken, cracked, or damaged due to oral injury. Emergency treatment with a dental crown protects the tooth from infection and alleviates the pain and discomfort associated with a cracked or broken tooth.
In some instances, crowns may be utilized for cosmetic purposes. If a tooth is severely misshapen or stained and is not suitable for cosmetic treatments like dental bonding or porcelain veneers, a porcelain crown can serve as a viable alternative.

What to Expect
The Crown Placement Process
The process of getting a dental crown at your Greenville dentist typically requires two appointments over a span of about 2 to 3 weeks. During your first appointment, Dr. Lindsay Cash will start by cleaning your teeth and numbing the treatment area. She will then use specialized tools to remove any damaged enamel from your tooth and reshape it into a stable, strong platform for the crown.
Next, Dr. Cash will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab where your custom crown will be created. This process takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks, during which you will wear a temporary crown. Once your permanent crown arrives at our office, you will return for your second appointment. Dr. Cash will check the crown to ensure it fits perfectly before bonding it to your tooth permanently with dental cement.
