Do I Need a Dental Crown?
Common Reasons For Treatment
Dental crowns are designed to completely cover and protect your tooth down to the gum line. They are often recommended for seriously damaged teeth or large cavities that cannot be treated with a filling.
Crowns are also frequently used to safeguard the structure of a tooth following root canal therapy. Once placed, a crown helps prevent further complications. In many instances, crowns are the ideal solution for restoring teeth that are broken, cracked, or damaged due to oral injuries. Emergency treatment with a dental crown can protect the tooth from infection and alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with a cracked or broken tooth.
In some cases, crowns are utilized for cosmetic reasons. If a tooth is severely misshapen or stained and is not suitable for other cosmetic treatments like dental bonding or porcelain veneers, a porcelain crown may be a viable alternative.

What to Expect
The Crown Placement Process
The process of getting a dental crown at your Five Forks dentist typically involves two appointments over a span of about 2-3 weeks. During your first visit, Dr. Lindsay Cash will clean your teeth and numb the treatment area. She will then use specialized tools to remove any damaged enamel and reshape your tooth into a stable, strong platform for the crown.
Next, Dr. Cash will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab, where your custom crown will be created. This fabrication process takes about 2-3 weeks, during which you'll wear a temporary crown. Once your permanent crown arrives at our office, you'll return for your second appointment. Dr. Cash will check the fit of the crown to ensure it’s perfect before bonding it to your tooth permanently with dental cement.

After Treatment
Caring for Your Dental Crown
One of the greatest advantages of dental crowns is that they look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. To care for your crown, simply maintain your regular oral hygiene routine: brush at least twice a day for two minutes and floss at least once daily.
We also recommend visiting our Five Forks office for regular cleanings to ensure your crown remains in excellent condition. You can find us at 117 Batesville Road Suite 202 Simpsonville, SC 29681.
